It
started out to be a normal day
for Tina, she showered,dressed, put
on
her make up and went to work. Nothing seemed to be different
when
she first went into her office and there had not been any
indication
that the company was going to make any changes. Being
the head
personal administrator usually meant that she was aware of

sooner has

sat down at her desk when her own personal

morning and then handed her a message requesting her to report to
the branch

checked
her calendar, making sure she had not overlooked any work
related
meetings or that there was some special event scheduled.
Clarifying that all was fine on her end, she then went to the managers
office as requested.
Don
the
manager
greeted her at the door and motioned for her to be
seated. "Please sit Tina. I really don't want to alarm you so
I'll do
my best to explain things to you in great detail.
Headquarters has
been looking over the personnel records and it has come
to their
attention that you are over qualified for your position.
They have
acknowledged that you have fulfilled your duties superbly but
just
the same, they feel that you are not meeting your own
potential."
Having
heard
so
many speeches like this and given a few of her own
to other employees as they were about to discharged, Tina became a
little angry at the audacity of the company.
"I
know that
many
of your co-workers in personnel are going to miss
you but they can go visit you in your new office where you will be the
corporate liaison."
A
puzzled
look
crossed Tina's face as she looked Don in the eyes to
see
if this was just some joke that her co-workers were playing.
"Sir?"
Don
looked at
her
with a gleam in his eyes. "Tina, it's been long
overdue but you have been promoted. The new position comes
with a
raise, larger office and travel. I sure hope you will
accept
the
position. The only thing I ask is that you don't tell your
secretary.
Jan has also been overlooked for quite some time and
now she will
be taking your position if you accept this one."
Head
still
spinning, and a smile on her face, Tina accepted the new
position. She then stood, and accepted Don's hand as he
extended
it
to congratulate her and with a smile, she returned to her
office. She
had not been seated for more then 20 minutes when her
secretary
Jan busted through the door with the most excited look on her
face.
"Did
you
know? When did you know? Oh My God!!! I
can't
believe it. How did they manage to pull this off without
any memo's
passing our desk? We need to celebrate
tonight."
Tina
barely
getting
a word in edgewise and still clearing her desk out
she murmured, "Sure, how about Ridges Bar and Grill around eight
tonight?"
As
Jan
bounced out
of the office, she confirmed the plans and made
her way back to her desk to start packing her personal belongings
up.
That
evening,
Tina
was surprised to see most of the people from work at the
bar. They had put together a lot of tables and was all
assembled when Tina joined them. "Wow, I wasn't expecting a
big
party but hey, this is great."
The
evening
was a
big celebration with a lot of mingling. As the
evening ended, Tony a co-worker that handled a lot of application
screening approached Tina off to the side where no one had
noticed.
"Tina, now that we are not going to be working together,

wondering if you might consider an evening out with me.
Nothing too
big, maybe a movie some dinner or dancing."

was
